Each pixel contains Six 5050 RGB LEDs along with a dedicated WS2801 controller chip. All of the LEDs are controlled at once so you cannot have one pixel with the six LEDs different colors. (Color control is per single dot 6-LED pixel only) The total max brightness of all LEDs is about 9000mcd.

This RGB pixel strand is connected by a 4-conductor waterproof connector cable. Data is shifted down from one pixel to the next . The wires carry the following signals: +12V, Gnd, Data and Clock .

Pixels are digitally controlled, with an internal 8-bit PWM LED driver (24-bit color for 16 million different shades). Pixels must be clocked by a microcontroller, or other control devices. There are many examples around the web available showing simple connections and code for the Arduino as well as other microcontrollers.
